Usually, when we think or say the word Thanksgiving, some images that may come to mind are pumpkins, fall-colored orange, yellow, and green leaves, and a table covered with some of our favorite foods, like turkey, ham, and all kinds of oven-baked bread, assorted vegetables, and desserts. Oh, and let’s not forget who comes to mind, family and friends!
We say, “Happy Thanksgiving, or What are you doing for Thanksgiving?” We see cards and signs that say, “Give Thanks.” Is this something we merely say because it’s “that time of year” again? I hope not!
SO WHAT DOES IT REALLY MEAN?
I’m sure this year, for many of us, “Thanksgiving” is and has a deeper and more passionate meaning. In the last several months, I’ve had many reasons and opportunities to say something other than “I’m thankful!” But I am sincerely very grateful despite what it may look like or how I feel! Here are a few things it means to me.
It means being Joyous, happy for someone else.
It means Expecting a good future and embracing change.
It means Surprising someone with a Thanksgiving call–instead of a text!
It means Uplifting someone whose heart may be hurting with encouraging words.
It means Smiling when I say “hello,” even with my mask on!
P.S. Did you get it…Joyous, Expecting, Surprising, Uplifting, and Smiling! YES, it says JESUS with just a few of His attributes!
When Thanksgiving Day ends, and the days and months come and go, let’s not forget to be and continually do these few things. Perhaps you, too, can add some other hope-filled words to this list.
