Many of us are in remembrance of our fathers when Father’s Day is celebrated. Strangely when I was younger and growing up, I never thought about not having a father. I never knew the person, besides my mother, who helped procreate me. And neither my mother nor anyone else in my family ever mentioned this person or anything about him.
A FATHER FIGURE
My oldest brother was my father figure. Although he didn’t live with us, he was frequently there or though it seemed. The other kids may have had fathers, but I had my big brother! Whenever I was around him, it seemed I always had his undivided attention. It didn’t matter whether he was talking with our Mom or anyone else.
I Loved My Big Brother!
Every Birthday, Christmas, or any day, I knew I would see my brother, and he would always have the perfect gift for me! Whenever he arrived, he never called out for me by my name, just shouted, “Where’s my little sister!?” And always with a big grin and smile! He always made me feel special and loved.
A FATHER NOW AND FOREVER
It wasn’t until I was in my early thirties that I began to think about a father or my father and what he might be like, looked like, did he know me, or was he alive? Strangely though, I kept these thoughts to myself. But it was around this time that I met and became acquainted with my Heavenly Father, who is now my Father forever! I no longer wonder about having a father.
“See how very much our heavenly Father loves us, for he allows us to be called his children—think of it—and we really are! But since most people don’t know God, naturally they don’t understand that we are his children.” (1 John 3:1) TLB
PERSPECTIVE
A charming young woman I know whose mother and father left this earthy realm many years ago sent me this Father’s Day greeting, “Happy Father’s Day to The Greatest Father Ever, our Heavenly Father.” Yes, He is the Greatest Father ever, but to know this, you must get to know Him.
God The Father is not a “father figure,” nor is He a “substitute” for someone else.
KNOWING GOD AS YOUR FATHER
You can’t know God as The Father without first knowing Jesus (John 14:6) AMP.
To get to know Jesus, you must receive or permit Him to come into your life. Then you begin a relationship with Him by spending time with Him so it can develop. As that relationship grows, you will experience His presence, and the never-ending Love GodThe Father has for you.
“If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Rom.10:9-10) CSB
Thank you for journeying with me, and may The Love of God, The Father, grow richly in your heart.
