DON’T BE AFRAID, ONLY BELIEVE.
Life expectations . Uncategorized“Only Believe.” may seem like a simple phrase, often associated with Christmas, but it holds a powerful truth that can significantly impact our lives. While it is commonly used on merchandise and for well-intentioned purposes, it represents a biblical principle that should be remembered and practiced throughout the year. The two words hold a significant meaning and can help us live a fuller life.
In the Gospel of Mark, chapter 5, verse 36, a well-known religious leader approached Jesus and requested Him to come and heal his sick daughter. However, while speaking to Jesus, some people from the man’s house arrived and informed him that his daughter had already passed away. Jesus said two “command” words to the man, a synagogue leader, “Only Believe.”
Don’t Allow Fear-filled Words of Doubt to Shift You into Unbelief.
But, before speaking these words to him, Jesus immediately said, “Don’t be afraid.” I like paraphrasing it: “Don’t even THINK about what they say! ONLY Believe Me!” Jesus wanted him to keep his focus entirely on Him.
“When Jesus overheard what was said, he told the synagogue leader, “Don’t be afraid. Only believe.” (Mark 5:36)
A Light Shines In the Darkness
This holiday season, we are surrounded by numerous bright and glittering lights that compete for our attention. At night, they look beautiful. However, these lights are only temporary. Once the holiday season ends, the lights turn off.
In contrast, Jesus Christ is the world’s True Light that continues to shine brightly through any darkness. Unlike the temporary lights of the season, His light never fades away and remains a guiding presence throughout our lives.
“Eternal life is in him, and this life gives light to all mankind. His life is the light that shines through the darkness—and the darkness can never extinguish it.” (John 1:4-5)
Sometimes, when life feels overwhelming with darkness, I remember that The Light of God’s Word will guide me through it. I have several favorites, but there are two scriptures that I always go to to help steady my mind. One in particular is Ps. 94:19, “Lord, when doubts fill my mind, when my heart is in turmoil, quiet me and give me renewed hope and cheer.”
Even now, as I write and think about everything I need and want to do before my out-of-town family comes here for Christmas, I feel the effects of these words.
“The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.” (Ps. 119:130)
Christmas is not just a holiday; Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Jesus, The Savior of the world. Although it is celebrated as a holiday once a year, He should be remembered and celebrated every day.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
“WITH GOD, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE,” ONLY BELIEVE.
If you don’t know Jesus, ask Him to come into your heart, your life right now. He loves you and is patiently and graciously waiting for you.
Thank you very much for sharing the journey with me. God bless you! May you have a safe and Blessed Christmas and year-end!
Sincerely,
Jacqui
